New year, new studios: 6 new spots to do yoga in New York

Sacred Sounds
Opened: December 2011

Sacred smartly opened in a yoga-studio dead zone, so West Village and West Soho yogis no longer have to tote their mats via subway to practice.

Founder Stephanie Tang had that in mind when she designed the minimalist space with elbow room: two large practice rooms and pretty, spacious locker rooms (but no showers).

The studio leads Sunrise and Candlelit Flow classes daily, plus kids classes, but the marquee experience is Unnata Aerial Yoga, traditional yoga poses done while you’re suspended in blue silks hanging from the ceiling.

163 Bleecker St., btwn. Thompson and Sullivan Sts., 2nd fl., West Village, Single class: $20 ($25 for aerial),
